Also, I finally busted out my grandmother's old knitting needles and started working on a hat. So far I'm just doing a test swatch. My stitches are still pretty irregular owing to being about two decades out of practice. But I got a lot of help and good advice from boojum and akatchoom today (in both the knitting technique and color choosing departments), so I think it's going to work out. My previous knitting projects (all done when I was very young--perhaps 10-12 years old?) rarely resulted in completed garments, so I'm going to keep things simple and try to actually get the hat finished before I start experimenting too heavily. But once my fingers get their coordination back, I'm anxious to try remembering some of the more advanced techniques I tried as a kid (like intarsia and cable knitting).
It's been a very fun day.
(By the way, the intarsia link contains my current favorite word: boustrophedonically.)
